Puppies

Pet Dog Trainer

When can I start??

You can start training your puppy as soon as you get it, the earlier the better. Training your puppy how to behave and respond to commands at an early age, reaps rewards later in its life.

Why so soon??

Because for young puppies the most vital period of learning is up to 18 weeks of age. Puppies like children learn lots of things from a very early age, and will quickly pick up bad habits, therefore it is essential that you teach them correct behaviour in the first place.

Play and early socialisation of puppies has long been recognised as an important factor in the development of a happy well adjusted adult dog. Since time immemorial it is believed that you should not start to train a puppy until it is approximately six months old (some clubs still do). However by this time your puppy may be displaying many forms of unwanted behaviour, e.g. jumping up, mouthing/playbiting, attention seeking, pulling on the leash, not coming back when called and may also be showing signs of aggression towards other dogs. This type of behaviour is typical of the untrained and un-socialised puppy.

Puppy Early Learning Course

You can enrol onto a Puppy Early learning Course, as soon as your puppy has completed all its vaccinations. The 6 week course is designed for early socialisation and learning for puppies up to 18 weeks of age. The six basic commands and exercises are taught such as sit, down, stand, heeling on lead and coming back when called and leave. Shaping the puppy into the correct behaviour, without pressure, by using reward and motivational methods. Teaching your puppy to respond to  commands is only part of the course, advice on how to deal with behavioural problems such as jumping up, and play biting is also included.
